How Christmas Trees Live Forever

It’s true Christmas trees can live forever – it’s all about the power of mulch, baby!

The City of Arvada had drop off sites for post-Christmas trees, as did most of the communities nearby.  Now, those trees have been shredded into mulch and are ready to be picked up and used by enterprising local gardeners and landscapers.

The weather for the past couple of days had us all thinking about spring time, but now it’s back to business January style. So it might be hard to think about doing something good for your summer gardens. So try to remember – Christmas tree mulch is especially good here between Denver and Boulder, where the soil tends to be alkaline.  Christmas tree mulch will add much-needed acidity.

You’ll have to do your own loading, so bring shovels. The sites are -

      1. the City parks Maintenance Shop at 7800 W. 62nd Ave.
      2. Lake Arbor Park at 6400 Pomona Drive
      3. Lutz Sports Complex at W. 58th and Miller

And if you still have that dried-out tree, you can drop it off at those sites until January 22.

For more info on this program or how to use mulch in your landscape call the Arvada Parks Department at 720-898-7410
