Have you ever gotten a word of encouragement completely out of the blue, and it changed your whole outlook?
I got one recently.
I was doing a short sale, and had to tell the buyer’s agent some bad news. Frankly, I had no idea how to solve the problem that had just been dropped in my lap.
The buyer’s agent responded to the bad news by asking me, “Have you ever worked in the theater?”
“Just costuming,” I replied.
“Well, you know how all these things go wrong at the last minute?” he asked.
“True. Dress rehearsal is always chaos.”
Then, simultaneously we say, “And opening night comes off without a hitch!”
His moment of encouragement reminded me, if you have a talented and committed cast and crew, keep selling tickets because opening night is coming.
Of course – in real estate it’s closing day we’re looking towards. But I do have a lot of talented and committed people who help me through things like tough short sales and so far I’ve closed every one.
So, we plugged on, tackling every twist and turn of the new problem. And guess what?
The buyer bought the house, the seller got their chance to move on with their life, and everyone got their hard-earned paycheck.
So, if you’re at your wits’ end, and you’re not sure if you’re going to be able to pull a deal out of the muck or not – just keep plugging until there truly is nothing else you can do.
Ask for help – call everyone you can think of who might have an idea. In this case, the title company had an idea that worked.
Sometimes you just have to give one up. But usually, as long as the buyer wants to buy and the seller wants to sell, it can be done.
This reminds me of a post I wrote over a year ago: Colorado Home Buyers – Be Sure You’re Working With a Great Team!

I write posts on real estate issues and local events in the Denver metro area, especially those *communities between Denver and Boulder, as a public service. My hope is to give people an idea of the ‘flavor’ of our community, in case they’re new or moving to the Denver area.
I am a residential real estate agent, happily helping folks buy a house or sell a house in the beautiful and friendly *suburbs northwest of Denver.
